DON QUIXOTE

Nona Demey Gallagher uses an iconic character to build a wilful universe in which humour and social critique collide with an unbridled imagination.
For the first time, Nona Demey Gallagher takes on a classic from the repertoire: Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. The story of a wandering knight who, driven by courtly ideals, mistakes windmills for giants grew into one of the best-known novels in world literature.
This theatrical retelling departs from an adaptation by the experimental punk author Kathy Acker. Acker's novel Don Quixote: Which Was a Dream (1986) turns the Spanish gentleman into an American dreamer searching for love in a loveless society. Together with writer Jana Antonissen, Gallagher distils from it a contemporary quest in which dreams are not an escape from reality, but a way of distorting it.
