COPYRIOT

COPYRIOT is about our search for something to hold onto in a world that increasingly seems a copy of a copy. Inspired by the films of Charlie Kaufman and Dostoevsky's absurd short story The Double, Krapp sets out to conjure a tragicomic mirror world full of strange doublings and dubious doppelgängers.

Although individuality appears to reign supreme, we are increasingly mistaken for our virtual doppelgängers: idealised ghosts that look a lot like us and – who knows – perhaps one day will become more ‘real’ than us.

Once again, Krapp tries to face the ‘monstrous’ with COPYRIOT. After dealing with paranoid cyborgs, gothic ghosts and the Devil himself, they now confront the biggest monster of modern times: the ego.

COPYRIOT by the collective KRAPP, directed by Nona Demey Gallagher, follows Gloria, a young woman who is suddenly confronted with a double: a copy of herself who does everything better. The performers balance effortlessly between presence and distance, between acting and self-commentary in this piece, loosely based on Dostoevsky's The Double, with surrealist mental layers that evoke the work of Charlie Kaufman.
